What is a coffee plunger?
Coffee plungers, as tedious as they may seem are actually quite easy to use. It’s as simple as pouring hot water in the jar, adding ground coffee, closing the jar with the top and plunger and pressing away. Of course, there maybe some coffee making gurus out there that have their own expert way as how coarse the coffee grounds should be or how hot the water should be before adding it to the jar. But that’s what makes the coffee brewing process fun and engaging. The process can be adjusted in unique ways according to taste, or the way you want to brew the coffee.
The basics for brewing coffee in a French press is as follows:
1) Bring the water to a boil, and after boiling let cool for about five to ten seconds.
2) While water is coming to a boil, remove the lid and plunger and set aside.
3) Grab your favorite coffee ground, or if you have whole coffee beans, this is the time to ground the coffee. ( Note: It is recommended to ground whole beans to a coarse texture, roughly the size of coarse ground sea salt for comparison, maybe smaller. The reason for a coarse texture is that the flat piece that presses the coffee ground in the jar has holes to allow the liquid to flow through to the top. Don’t want any coffee bits floating around, it leaves a gritty feel or taste after sipping.)
4) Pour desired amount of your ground coffee into the jar. It’s recommended a teaspoon of coffee ground for each cup of coffee being made. If you are running a cafe, find out more about coffee wholesale prices.
5) After boiling the water and letting it cool, pour over top of the coffee ground the amount you desire and let stand for a minute or a minute and a half. Let stand longer for a stronger tasting coffee, but should be no longer than four minutes. (Note: depending on the size of the French Press you have can determine the amount of water you want to pour in.)
6) Place the plunger and lid over the hot water and coffee ground and press down slowly with a smooth motion. If pressed down too fast the hot water will rise quickly and shoot out and you will have a very uncomfortable experience.
7) Do not retract the plunger, leave the coffee ground pressed and then proceed to pour the fresh brewed coffee into your favorite coffee mug or cup of choice. From there is where you add all of your fixings. Grab your sugar, grab your creamer or milk if so desired and add to the coffee that you just made! After jazzing up your coffee, sit, relax and feel the warmth and savor the flavor of freshly brewed, French Pressed coffee – content by pure bean.
